What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants refer to small posts that are surgically placed beneath a patient’s gum line, where they act as replacement tooth roots. Since the posts are made from biocompatible materials like titanium, they’re capable of fully fusing with the jawbone tissue. Once this has occurred, a sturdy foundation exists for a corresponding dental restoration to be placed. Dental implants are unique in the sense that no other replacement option brings back the entire lost tooth’s structure from root to crown.

The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

The dental implant process can often be organized into four distinct steps:

  • Initial Dental Implant Consultation – The first step on your dental implant journey is a consultation with Dr. Alidadi. Once we’ve determined that your jawbone can support implants, we can begin planning your surgery.
  • Dental Implant Surgery – Our team can complete the dental implant procedure right here in our Port Chester dental office; it takes around an hour to place a single dental implant, with complex procedures taking longer – anywhere from one to four or more might be used.
  • Dental Implant Osseointegration/Abutment – Once the implant is in place, it will need to fuse with the jawbone over the course of several months to ensure stability and future health. From there, an abutment piece can be attached on top to hold the future restoration.
  • Delivery of Dental Implant Restoration(s) – A custom-made dental restoration will be attached to the top of your dental implants, and thanks to the support provided by the posts, they’ll allow you to enjoy life with a healthy, functional set of teeth.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants don’t just replace teeth – they also provide a direct boost to a patient’s overall oral wellness and quality of life! A few of their most notable benefits include:

  • Dental implants prevent the intense bone resorption that occurs following tooth loss.
  • They can be used to replace any number of missing teeth regardless of where they were within the mouth.
  • Dental implant patients have almost all of their original biting power restored, which means they can freely eat all of their favorite foods.
