How Does a Dental Bridge Work?

A bridge is supported on either side by the natural teeth (that have been outfitted with dental crowns) or dental implants placed beneath the gumline. Our bridges are made of high-grade, durable porcelain. After she places your bridge, Dr. Alidadi will check to be sure that it looks completely natural, that it is placed properly and functions correctly in your bite, and that it will last a long time.

Bridges can be an affordable solution to replacing missing teeth. Even if your missing tooth is hidden from view, getting that gap filled can be very important to both your chewing function and your overall oral health. The spaces left from missing teeth can cause others to shift, lead to bite and/or jaw problems, and can contribute to gum disease and bone loss.

Dental Bridges vs. Dental Implants

A traditional dental bridge requires crowns placed on healthy teeth adjacent to the gap. If the nearby teeth are healthy enough to support crowns or are already fitted with them, this type of bridge is a good option. However, in some cases, dental implants are the better choice. A benefit of using an implant-supported bridge over a traditional bridge is that an implant preserves the bone structure of your jaw, just like a natural tooth root. Plus, implants stop bone loss and can stimulate bone growth.
